Christians for Hurricane Irma Relief

by | Sep 10, 2017 | Outreach

The last few days have brought devastation to people across the globe. There are currently people who are without homes, clean water, and electricity. During this time, it’s safe to say that some are even without hope. The truth of the matter is these people are in need and we as Christians need to help. It’s time for us to rise to the occasion and show Christ’s love to those who need it most.

Luke 6:32-36
“For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.”

To make it easier for each of us to get involved Nerd in the Word has taken the time to put together a short list of charities who are currently helping with Hurricane Irma disaster relief. These charities are doctrinally sound and are prepared to share the Gospel as they help others. Many of us don’t have the ability to get out there to help personally, but we can all donate to help our brothers and sisters serve while spreading the Good News of our loving Saviour.

Samaritan’s Purse

Samaritan’s Purse is currently serving in the Caribbean by delivering much-needed supplies to those affected by Irma. They are preparing to distribute more supplies to Florida and are still actively helping with the relief efforts in Texas. They have already helped thousands of people and will continue to do so in the days ahead.

World Vision

World Vision is currently preparing to respond in Florida.  They are also assisting with disaster relief in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti. At the moment they are moving trucks full of food, water, and hygiene products to Georgia. Each truck is prepared to help 2,500 people. Meanwhile, their staff in the Dominican Republic and Haiti will continue to distribute food and water while clearing downed trees and rubble.

Operation Blessing International

Operation Blessing International is currently helping those affected by Irma in Haiti (They are also helping those who have affected by the earthquake in Mexico and Guatemala and the flooding in Texas and Nepal) and are preparing to help those in Florida who are destined to be affected by Irma very soon. They will be providing clean water, meals, and personal hygiene products and have warehouses with supplies prepared for cleanup once the hurricane has passed.
